The definition of the word cornerstone is “a foundation, backbone or centerpiece”. The community of Cornerstone in Calgary is proving to be exactly that. A community leading the way with one of the most experienced land developers in the province, Anthem United.
Cornerstone is the only community in Calgary to have triple digits for residential permit applications from June 1st to the end of August this year. Under the wings of Anthem United, Cornerstone is one of the most successful communities in the city. Builders in Cornerstone pulled 107 permits during this time.
Megan Starke, marketing manager at Anthem United, says Anthem United has worked extremely hard to make this a community residents will love and she’s thrilled that it’s working.
“It is exciting to see that the planning for Cornerstone is being recognized by buyers. A lot of effort was put into amenity planning and the product types for this multi-generational community. This includes the future wetland, access to two future LRT stations, the Major Activity Centre (MAC) and home styles that allow for secondary entries into the home.”
Cornerstone has grown at an incredible pace over the last year. According to the Calgary civic census, 1,575 residents moved into almost 600 homes at Cornerstone, the third highest of any community.
“The park and storm pond in phases one and three are open and being enjoyed by our residents,” Starke says the park is directly across from the Front Drive show home parade where visitors can get a prime chance to view and experience just the kind of lifestyle that Cornerstone offers.
The 1,100-acre community in the northeast is living up to its billing as part of the New North, which highlights improving quality of life that is available in this vibrant sector of the city. New commercial, recreational and industrial developments throughout the northeast have vastly enhanced lifestyle in the area, and Cornerstone is helping by bringing a wide array of stylish, practical and affordable homes.

“The vision for Cornerstone has always been one of connections, where neighbours can congregate and get to know each other. We’re building an environment that encourages this kind of strong community bond,” Starke says.
Besides the pond, there will be 95 acres of parkland in Cornerstone, 14 kilometres of pathways and 180 acres of natural wetlands.
Families are now moving into the first homes in phase two and construction is underway off 60th Street and Stoney Trail to allow for quicker vehicle access in and out of the N.E. pocket. “It will be a great resource for our current and future residents,” she points out.
Phase four will be available in January 2019 and some of Cornerstone’s builders have already started to pre-sell into the phase. “Many of our lots and homes in phase four have been designed to ensure a secondary suite is available. This has been very important to many of our current residents, so we designed phase four to accommodate this as much as possible.”
Still to come is Calgary’s first Major Activity Centre (MAC), which will be located in Cornerstone and will offer plenty of shopping, commercial and 3,000 employment opportunities — all close to home!
There will be five major access points to provide ease of transportation to and from Cornerstone, which will have easy access to two major transit plazas, including future LRT access.
There is also a diverse range of product offerings available to suit any budget and lifestyle. Members of Cornerstone’s award winning builder group are also among the most recognizable names in the industry and include, Jayman BUILT, Morrison Homes, Pacesetter Homes, Shane Homes and Truman.
Available are duplexes from the $330,000s from Morrison Homes, Shane Homes and Truman. Courtyard homes from the $470,000s are from Jayman BUILT. Front Drive Homes from the $500,000s are from Morrison Homes, Pacesetter, Shane Homes and Truman.
Zero Lot Homes from the $380,000s come from Jayman BUILT, Pacesetter and Shane Homes while no-condo-fee Street Towns from the $350,000s are from Jayman BUILT and Shane Homes. Truman meanwhile offers its Yorke condo townhomes from the $290,000s and its Legends of Cornerstone has apartment condos from the $170,000s.
Starke says new show homes are opening in October south of Country Hills Boulevard. “We have new show homes from Shane Homes and Truman Homes. Truman’s Duplexes are now open at 106 Cornerstone Circle N.E. While Shane Homes’ New Street Towns open October 27th at 830 – 838 Cornerstone Boulevard. N.E.”
“People also realize that Cornerstone is also the last major development inside the Ring Road in the northeast,” Starke points out. “They can be part of the change in the northeast.”
