WHAT WE LOOK FOR

Articles submitted for consideration should be of interest to readers of Calgary Home Living, preferably to CP Style and in an informative and reader-friendly tone that is appropriate for Calgary Home Living. Articles that introduce new ideas and advance conversations around topics and trends that engage our readers – think op-ed – are our favourites. We appreciate well-thought-out writing that balances research, news and views with fun and memorable anecdotes or real life examples that help illustrate your position.

Feel free to draw from your own experiences in business, or in life, to support your ideas, but refrain from over-the-top self-promotion (of yourself or your company) that will prevent us from considering your article. The same goes for excessive technical jargon and abstract, blanket assertions. Make your points clearly and concisely and move on. Use short, active sentences. Don’t ramble.

Please DO NOT SUBMIT pitches, abstracts, outlines, press releases, interview offers or articles written by PR departments. We’re after real articles from real people. No phone calls.

In fact, Calgary Home Living prefers submissions from contributors who are leaders in and knowledgeable about the types of industries and topics we regularly cover. Topics about housing trends and prices, furniture and interior design, what’s happening in different parts of the city in terms of infrastructure, green building and innovation are popular with our readers.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Submitted articles must be 500-999 words. We do not offer remuneration for contributed stories, but if they’re well-written and engaging to our audience we will energetically promote them – just like any good story that runs on our site.

Send your previously unpublished article(s) that is intended strictly for Calgary Home Living via the form below.

WHAT TO EXPECT IF WE ACCEPT

Submissions are reviewed approximately once a week, and the process is selective. Due to high volumes, we’re often unable to respond to all submissions. If you don’t receive a response within one week of submitting, it’s safe to assume that your piece was not selected for publication. Following up will not speed our review or improve the likelihood of a story’s acceptance. We do not provide feedback about why a submission may not have been selected for publication.

FOR STORIES WE DO CHOOSE TO PUBLISH:

  • All articles are subject to editing
  • Headlines and subheads are subject to change
  • Content may be edited for style, tone, or substance. Links may be added for context
  • Art will be added at the discretion of Calgary Home Living staff
  • Articles may or may not be promoted across Calgary Home Living’s family of sites, on our homepage, in our newsletters, and via our social feeds
  • Calgary Home Living may permit a select number of partner outlets to syndicate contributed articles that we’ve published originally

Calgary Home Living requests that contributed articles remain exclusive to our site for thirty (30) days, after which time they may be reprinted in part or full on other sites, with a link back to the original article on CalgaryHomeLiving.com

Contributed articles will run online only.
